Emphasizing on users' needs

Mapping out users' needs

Mapping out wants and needs for different use cases

Through user research, I identified 2 different use cases. I decided to create user personas to represent the wants and needs for both individual residential contractors and business residential contractors, helping me to make design decision that cater to the specific goals and pain points of each group.

Individual residential contractors

  1. Quickly create invoice and get paid

  2. Easily track jobs, payments, and client communication all in one place.

  3. Clear financial reporting to understand their cash flow, outstanding invoices, and income over time.

Business residential contractors

  1. Can handle multiple contractors, clients, and jobs at once.

  2. Allow teams to collaborate on projects, share information, and assign tasks.

  3. Ensure compliance with legal and safety regulations, including document storage and reporting.

Phasing out the delivery of value

I led a story-mapping workshop with my PM and engineers. Through this workshop, we visually organized, prioritized, and planned designs, features, and workflows.

Consider our time and budget constraints, aside from enhancing existing features, we decide to add

  1. Client management

  2. Vendor & subcontractor management

  3. Financial Tracking

Information Architecture

Incorporate voice input & step-by-step invoice/estimate creation to enhance mobile experience

Considering the mobile nature, I add import from contact and voice input functionality to provide a more streamlined mobile experience.

Fast-Paced Work Dynamics

Working on Project Tapper as a freelance designer for a startup client was a great learning experience. I learned a lot about working in a fast-paced environment where things change quickly, and deadlines are tight. I had to adapt and stay efficient while keeping the design quality high. Collaborating with the client taught me to be flexible and responsive. This project helped me improve my design skills and manage my time better in a busy work setting.
